FAQs
Who can join the Youth Axe Throwing League?
Any teen aged 10 to 18 can join — no prior experience needed! We welcome public school students, homeschoolers (including those using ESA funds), and private school students.
How to join the Youth Axe Throwing League?
It’s simple! Just pop into store and sign-up, then all you have to do is show up – we’ll guide you every step of the way.
Is axe throwing safe for kids and teens?
Yes — when done correctly and with supervision. Safety is our top priority. All sessions are run by trained staff with strict safety rules, coach-led instruction, and one-on-one attention. We also teach safety practices from day one as part of the league curriculum.
Can I just drop my child off for the league?
No — while our coaches supervise all league activities, Urban Axe Yard is not a daycare. Parents/guardians are responsible for their child’s behaviour before and after the session, and during any time the child is not actively participating under direct supervision.
Do I need to buy any gear for my child?
Nope! We provide all the equipment needed, including our safe and well-maintained house axes. That said, if your teen gets really into the sport, they can upgrade and purchase their own WATL-certified axe from our shop.
What should my child wear?
-
Closed-toe shoes are required.
-
Comfortable clothes that allow for easy movement are ideal.
Is the league ESA-approved for homeschoolers?
Yes! Urban Axe Yard is an approved vendor with the Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) Program. Our league qualifies as a Sports League.
How long does the league run?
Our Youth League runs in 5 week blocks, depending on the season. Sessions are held every Monday from 5:00PM during league season.
Can my teen try a session before committing to the full season?
Contact us to check if a trial session is possible.
Will teens be grouped by age or skill level?
We keep the league flexible — beginners and returning players are welcome. Coaches adapt instruction based on skill, and we often group throwers to ensure everyone feels comfortable and challenged.
Is this a drop-off programme? Can I leave my child at Urban Axe Yard during league sessions?
At Urban Axe Yard, your teen’s safety and development are our top priorities. Every session is carefully supervised by trained Axeperts, and we follow a strict safety-first approach during all activities.
That said, we kindly remind families that this is not a drop-off or daycare programme. While our team enforces clear rules and monitors all throwing during league hours, parents and guardians remain responsible for their child’s conduct and safety — especially:
-
Before and after sessions
-
During breaks
-
Any time a coach is not actively supervising
We deeply appreciate your support in helping reinforce these standards. Working together keeps the league safe, respectful, and empowering for everyone.
